Seniors / Medicare

This is your time. You’ve earned it, and it’s time to enjoy it. Solid expert planning will bring you security, comfort and the chance to enable your dreams.
But navigating retirement and the financial challenges of aging is complicated. In fact, half of American households may not have adequate income to sustain their standard of living. Planning for retirement and navigating the financial issues that arise for seniors takes skill, patience and up-to-date knowledge. Following are some of the areas to be considered:
1) Financial Planning for Retirement:
Financial planning for your retirement is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your quality of life. It’s essential to decide how much money you’ll need to retire, how much income/earnings you will need to accrue over how much time to achieve that amount, and how to invest for retirement. In your retirement, your planning will include how to budget in order to maintain your quality of life and how to minimize unnecessary expenses and maximize your investments based upon your risk tolerance. It’s also essential to understand how Social Security fits into your financial planning. For most of us, Social Security alone won’t be enough to cover all our bills. It’s important to know how much you'll receive on a monthly basis, based upon when you start taking social security, and how to best budget around your Social Security income, along with any pension or retirment plans you might have. You want to be sure that there are few or no surprises here! You’ll also want to explore additional supports such as tax deductions, tax credits and “catch-up contributions" if you're still working.
2) Medicare, Insurance and Healthcare Costs:
This is one of the most important concerns of all. The choices you can make around Medicare are often bewildering, and they affect your financial future in powerful ways. It’s hard to make the best choices without expert guidance. It’s also important to know all the costs associated with Medicare–and there are many! There are also many other forms of insurance to be considered in order to optimize your financial future. In addition to the many types of Medicare, there is also Medicaid, Long Term Care insurance, dental and vision insurance, SSDI, SSI, Military Veteran Benefits, additional insurance options for limited income adults, and Cash-Value Life insurance, among others.
3) Estate Planning:
It’s essential to have a will, trust and estate plan to protect your hard-earned assets for you and your family. Included in this are having a durable power of attorney and a living will. For your, and your family’s, peace of mind, these are nothing short of essential. We will work with your other advisors to make sure you have everything you need in place.
4) Housing:
Housing is of profound importance when considering quality of life. Will you live at home? Might a retirement community serve your needs? Would an assisted living retirement community meet your needs more effectively than an independent living retirement community, or continuing care retirement communities, which can accommodate various levels of care as they become necessary. Might a reverse mortgage be of help? If so, what are the reverse mortgage options and how can you be protected against scams? Do you have, or need, a life insurance policy to cover any remaining mortgage costs?
5) Scams:
Seniors can be easy targets for financial exploitation or scamming. Investment fraud. Wire scams. Hi-tech scams. Phone scams. High-interest rate scams. The list is growing almost by the day. And seniors are prime targets.
Protecting your money, building your wealth and helping you plan to enable your dreams are my central goals. I’ll work with you to protect you against these forms of exploitation which can drain the assets you’ve worked your whole life to accumlate.
6) Custom Financial Plan:
A custom plan isn't a luxury--it's a necessity! A financial advisor will listen to your dreams, concerns and future plans. Then they will work side by side with you to explore your financial state. Next, a skilled advisor will work with you to create a personalized, carefully thought-out plan that maximizes your assets and investments based upon your risk tolerance and needs. My goal at Open Vistas Financial Solutions is simple: to help you get the most security and the best return from your investments based upon your risk tolerance, and to create a financial plan that works hard to give you the future you richly deserve.
Now is The Time!
Working with seniors is very close to my heart, in more ways than one! My husband is now on Medicare so I understand those issues. We both have very close relationships with our elderly parents, and I play a major role in helping many seniors navigate the challenges and joys of growing older and making wiser choices around finances. I'm an independent Medicare insurance representative* who can help find the best plan for you based upon your needs and budget. My husband was scammed in 2021 for $20K and his bank refused to return his money until I became involved. I ended up getting him a full refund. Here is a link to the New York Times article about what happened to him and others.
I look forward to help guide you through the complicated but immensely important financial choices in front of you, whether you are retired, planning for retirement, or planning never to retire!
